Allow us to re-introduce ourselves, we’re Katherine and Sean, a husband + wife duo who run an udon shop on Market Street here in San Francisco!
Our mission is simple: quick, convenient, delicious food in a well-run space.
We’ve been residents of SF for 10 years and know the hustle, the grind, the beauty and the comedy of life here. We set out to make this temple of noodle deliciousness after an inspired trip through Japan where we witnessed that fast food can also mean GOOD food. In between slurps, we saw the efficiency of a cafeteria style set-up in a udon-ya that allowed for quick, yet personalized, service. Excited about the prospect of providing a break to all the (albeit amazing) avocado toasts in San Francisco, we aimed to bring this udon concept back to the city.
Beyond service, the key to the successes of Japanese udon-ya were the actual noodles.
Our udon is aged for 2 days before it is rolled out and sliced into long luxurious strands. We also imported all our specialty equipment from Kagawa, Japan; in case you were wondering where we got our “unique” name from (we know, we know, it’s not easy to remember – just save us in your google maps ok?). Our udon holds a toothesomeness that retains its texture in our scratch-made broths- many which are the unique creations of Chef Sean.
Like all San Franciscans, we share a love for food. We know there are days you want a 4-hours long Michelin tasting menu and there are days you want to slurp hot noodles and run home to sweat pants and reality television; we’re here for you on the latter. Every day in the shop, you’ll find Chef Sean tinkering in the kitchen and Katherine managing the floor like a boss. So come grab a bowl and don’t be shy about saying hi!
